Autumn and Winter are officially Chemical Peel Season!
You can have a chemical peel at any time of the year, and we would encourage you to make chemical peels part of your ongoing skincare routine if you want to achieve radiant looking skin.
However, if you are someone who dips in and out of having chemical peels, autumn and winter is a good time for you to enjoy this treatment, and there are a couple of reasons why this is the case.
Autumn and winter are good times to assess any skin damage we may have from the summer months.
It is difficult to completely avoid the sun’s harmful rays, even when we consistently wear high quality sunscreen that is factor 30 or above. Sun damage can show up on our skin in the form of fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, melasma and age spots.
Chemical peels are an effective way of treating these concerns and reversing any sun damage that may be affecting our skin.
We recommend avoiding the sun after a chemical peel
The second reason for autumn and winter being an optimum time to indulge in a chemical peel, is that the lack of sun at this time of year gives your skin a better chance of recovery, and less chance of the skin being susceptible to harmful UV rays.
This doesn’t exclude you from not protecting your skin with a high factor SPF after having a chemical peel treatment in the autumn or winter though. The sun’s harmful rays can still make their way to your skin even when it’s cloudy and overcast, so it is important that we all wear high quality sunscreen whatever the weather.
What does a chemical face peel do?
Not all chemical peels are the same. They come in different strengths but their ultimate aim is to create controlled trauma to the skin which helps slough off the dead skin cells. A chemical peel is essentially a strong exfoliator which can effectively resurface the skin and uncover the beautiful, radiant skin that was hidden underneath.
